Book #3 from the series: The Cor Chronicles

Darkness and Steel

The Cor Chronicles Volume III

About

In the wake of murdering Queen Erella, the kingdom of Aquis has turned wholly against Lord Dahken Cor Pelson. While Garod’s priests decide his fate and the kingdom’s future, Cor trudges his way back to Fort Haldon and finds that word of his treachery has arrived before he.

A wave of darkness forms on the eastern side of the Spine as Emperor Nadav and his Dahken Geoff decide to take what is theirs. Nadav intends to take Aquis and the rest of the Shining West himself, starting with Fort Haldon, and Geoff demands that he be hailed as Lord Dahken to rule at his emperor’s side.

Which side will come down upon Cor first, and how will he save himself, his people and his unborn child?

The book picks up few weeks after the unbelievable conclusion of its prequel. I enjoyed meeting these interesting characters again on a new leg of their never ending adventure. This book was paced faster than the preceding 2 and the whole book spans several months. we get a glimpse at the 'gods' and their personalities.

After reading the book and putting that information with stuff I've read from the other books my suspicions are getting more flesh. The 'gods' are in fact powerful beings either from a different time or they are aliens, quite possibly a bit of both (as in humans that left earth and came back to do something). Remember where Cor got the fetish from? That sounded very much like a museum with led lights triggered by motion and proximity. This brings up many questions; Did something happen that plunged the world into reverse? What is this mission? Why are they in a vault? Why isn't Dahk the leader he is clearly the smartest and possibly the most powerful; as his people are immune to the powers of the other 'gods'. I can't wait for the next installment of the series there are a million questions just bubbling up.
[ranting ends]

The Loszians finally decide to war with the shining west. I hate them even more now and cannot wait for them to be extinct as a people. There are certain portions of the book that were disturbing. Thyss was way too pregnant to be any fun, which i missed dearly. Many characters developed nicely setting up for some interesting developments in the future. I cant help but think that Mariya will become a Loszian, she thinks like them and acts like them too; or she will go seduce Red and try to usurp the throne. She will come back to attack Cor, that I am certain. Cor'El now that was a surprise, still can't believe they were created by accident. I believe the Dahken have more potential than what we have seen, if not all then Cor; Dahk alluded to this fact in his conversation with Cor. All in all the book was really good and mucho entertaining. The one thing I didn't like was the strong female character at the beginning that was killed. It felt like she was created to be liked and killed really quickly to inspire hate for the Loszians but I feel that was unnecessary, she would have been another great strong female character for the book, at least one that isn't unstable.

cant wait for the next book, and i hope its longer too :)
